My team and I were tasked with designing a device that inputs data from a user and provides output to an end-user. We needed to select an area of focus, a sensor to use, design a proof-of-concept for our design, and present how it works. We chose to focus on designing a wearable health device used for monitoring around the house, specifically for elderly people and monitoring their falls, and we chose to use an orientation sensor. We worked in different subteams, the design subteam which was responsible for designing the wearable device and housing unit to store the raspberry pi. The computation subteam, which I was on, was responsible for designing a computer program that reads and processes
input data from a sensor, communicates meaningful output to the customer, and outputs data to a
text file for potential analysis. We were required to demonstrate our design during a design expo and demonstrate its need in the market.
